Guidance Department Discusses School Safety with Walworth Students

The recent bomb threats at Big Foot High School, and more recently at Sharon Grade School, has prompted a pro-active response by our Guidance Department. On Tuesday, November 13, 2018,  our Guidance Department met with all students in grades 5-8 to discuss these recent events. Mrs. Jennifer Ott-Wilson and Mr. Lee Knoble-Janney wanted assure our Walworth Intermediate and Middle School students that they are safe.  They shared with the students that we have multiple security systems in place, including frequent bathroom checks, security cameras, etc. They also shared how serious it is to make threats of this nature and the severe consequences of making threats.  They took time to answer any questions that students may have.

In addition to Tuesday’s presentations, students in grades 7-8th participated in another proactive Guidance Department program during Red Ribbon Week that involved attorney Frank Lettenberger and Walworth Police Officer Lewin. They too detailed the consequences for making threats.

We are so very fortunate to have a comprehensive Guidance curriculum and two dedicated and well-trained Guidance Counselors  that are on hand to address many areas of social/emotional learning.

We would appreciate your support at home in sharing our message that 1) students are safe; 2) that the school has many security systems in place; and 3) that this is a serious situation and the consequences are harsh.

Thank you for raising responsible and kind students.  Together we can and will keep our students safe.
