Walworth Jt. School District Receives Peer Review and Mentoring Grant for 2018-2019 School Year

[Walworth, Wisconsin], [August 14, 2018] - For the second year in a row, Walworth Jt. School District #1 has been chosen to receive $25,000 for the Peer Review and Mentoring Grant awarded by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Walworth Jt. School District #1 is partnering with CESA 2 (Whitewater, WI) to complete the grant.

The Peer Review and Mentoring Grant offers support to public school districts as well as independent public charter schools and the Cooperative Educational Service Agencies or CESAs. The support is given to develop a new, or redesign an on-going, peer review and reliable mentoring support program exclusively for initial Wisconsin educators. Studies reveal how solid and effective mentoring support systems for educators, especially those who are new to the teaching profession, can result in greater retention in the field of education.

Walworth Jt. School District will partner with Cooperative Educational Service Agency or CESA 2. CESA 2 provides support and services to school districts throughout the state. CESA 2 strives hard to be a leader among educational leaders and acts as a liaison between the school districts. Funding for CESA 2 comes from federal and state grants, fees paid for particular services, and from professional development workshop fees.

Walworth Jt. School District will partner with CESA 2 and work closely with them to continue improving student learning through expanding capacities of educators in the areas of standards based assessment and grading, and internal/external collaboration and communication. “It is great to be partnering with CESA 2; they are widely known and respected for their results focus, shared leadership, effective practice, innovative thinking, and so much more” said Phill Klamm, Walworth Jt. #1 Principal.

In this partnership, six mentor teachers will join in the "Train the Trainer" Model designed by the New Teacher Center, a national non-profit organization dedicated to improving student learning by guiding a new generation of educators.  Using this model allows initial educators to receive mentoring and coaching from experienced facilitators and educators. Those seasoned instructors (mentors) guide the initial educators (mentees) in developing knowledge and skills that they need. The partnership between Walworth Jt. School District and CESA 2 also means receiving training, guidance, and coaching from the experts at CESA 2.

Walworth Jt. School District is on a mission to provide the best education for all students.  Walworth believes that a passion for knowledge will prepare our students for a lifetime of learning.  Walworth values the importance of educating the whole child; fostering respect for self and others; encouraging honesty and integrity; and developing self-discipline and citizenship.  Walworth respects and welcomes the diversity that each of our students bring to our school and expects all students to feel safe, secure, and valued.
