This week is Adult Crossing Guard recognition week. I know some of you have already done this but take some time to show your appreciation for our Adult Crossing Guards. They split up their day, every school day, to make sure our kids are getting to school as safe as possible across some of our most busy roadways. There are not many people able or willing to do that for an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon every day. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to our kids!
Thank you Peg, Suzie, and Donny! We appreciate you, this week and every day!

Atentamente,
Phill Klamm
Administrador Interino del Distrito Escolar

SUBJECT: State Supreme Court ruling will not affect school closures
Dear Parents and Guardians,
On Wednesday, the Wisconsin Supreme Court struck down Governor Tony Evers' stay-at-home order. While restrictions on businesses and gatherings have been lifted for the time being, the ruling does not affect current school closures in the state.
To that end, the Walworth Jt. School District #1 will remain closed for the remainder of the school year. We are consulting with the Walworth County Department of Health regarding how the ruling may affect other district programming and events in the future.
We encourage our students and families to continue practicing social distancing and adhere to the guidelines provided by the CDC and other entities. It is expected that the governor and legislature will release a new plan for businesses and gatherings soon.
Thank you for your attention to this communication.
Sincerely,
Phill Klamm
Interim District Administrator

Mrs. Hummel's junior kindergarten class had a wonderful afternoon with Mrs. Penny Gruetzmacher! She read cute stories, the children played with her fabulous collection of finger puppets, and everyone enjoyed her delicious home-made cookies for snack! A big thank you to Mrs. Gruetzmacher's time, talent, and thoughtfulness!

The Boldger Kindergarten Bunch loved spreading joy and kindness during the โYouโve Got A Friend," kindness week. We also discovered how much our literacy skills have blossomed during the national โRead Across Americaโ celebration of Dr. Seuss. Could it have been the glasses or the protein in the green eggs and ham? ๐
#ReadAcrossAmerica #WalworthJ1

The Koala Hospital Port Macquarie, Australia, received $600.00 (Australian) from a campaign led by Ms. Boldgerโs kindergarten students. During the first 2 weeks in January, the children counted money donated by peers, friends, staff and student council. Our hearts are happy knowing we could help purchase water stations for these beautiful animals.

During Februaryโs Kindness Week, the RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) students read with the first and second graders! The fifth and sixth grade RAK members chose a book and read to the younger students. Once finished, the RAK members talked about the book and shared homemade kindness bookmarks (made by the RAK members) with each younger student. It was a day of kindness and fun for all involved! Well done RAK!

The kick-off assembly for Kindness Week was fantastic! We are so grateful for Chief Milligan and the continued support from our police department. There were performances by the jazz band, the middle school show choirs, and a special skit written/directed by eighth grader, Mia Nor!
Two of our talented teachers, Ms. Boldger and Mr. Kahl performed a wonderful song about friendship for our assembly as well.
Thank you Mrs. Ott-Wilson and Mr. Knoble-Janney for planning all the fun events for this week. And thank you to the students and staff who planned and performed today!

The fifth grade has spent the last month participating in CounterAct with Sergeant Vogts, of the Walworth Police Department, and Mrs. Dowden. They learned about making healthy choices, not giving in to peer pressure, bullying, and strategies that help them know what to do in different situations involving the studied concepts. They participated in role playing skits, and learned so much from Sergeant Vogts and Mrs. Dowden!

The children in Miss Koltes' junior jindergarten class were speechless when we went to get our Gingerbread Man cookie out of the oven and he was gone!ย The Gingerbread Man sent us on quite an adventure around school as he left us a trail of crumbs and several clues.ย Luckily, we were able to find the Gingerbread Man and enjoy this delicious treat during our daily snack time.

Mrs. Hummel's junior kindergarten class had tremendous fun on their Gingerbread Man Adventure! They baked their Gingerbread Man in their little oven and when they returned from music class, they discovered that their Gingerbread Man had escaped! A few crumbs and note were left behind. The note read that the Gingerbread Man went to theย gym to play basketball. The class quickly went to the gym, where another note and crumbs were left behind. The note read that the Gingerbread Man went up to IDC. The children were on a mission to find their GIngerbread Man and went right up to IDC. There were more crumbs and another note! The note said the Gingerbread Man was tired and went to the nurses' room to take a nap, so the class rushed to the nurse's room. On the bed was another note a few more crumbs! The note said that the GIngerbread Man was thirsty after his nap and had a chocolate milk! The class went to the milk cooler and found another note and more crumbs! The note said that after his milk, he went to the atrium to have fun at recess. The class went directly to the atrium and searched all around for their Gingerbread Man. McKinley found the Gingerbread Man at the bottom of the slide! Everyoneย cheered with joy and excitement that their GIngerbread Man was found! They quickly went to their classroom, decorated him with frosting and candy, and enjoyed every tasty bite! Now heย could no longer be on the loose in the school! What an amazing adventure!

The infamous story of "Charlotte's Web" inspired much learning in Ms. Boldger's kindergarten class this fall. Each day for several weeks, a chapter was read, and insightful discussions about friendships and farm life, captivated each child. Imagine the EXCITEMENT when a "miracle" would take place when sight words would mysteriously appear in the web above Simba's habitat. The ending of the story was bittersweet but what joy to receive copies of this book to read with our grown ups at home!!!
We delighted in the day when we gave Wilber a buttermilk bath and prepared and ate buttermilk pancakes. Our posters filled with sight words will be an interactive learning board at home and we are thrilled to continue our journey with these beloved friends, Charlotte and Wilber. ๐๐ท๐ธ

Our incredible 3 day event included an acting/art workshop for the children,ย a ride in the trolley with Mr. McFeely, for all classes, an all-school assembly delivered by Mr. McFeely focusing on the wonderful work of Mister Rogers, and a special message delivered by Ms. Sherapan at a Sunday morning church service. This event most definitely provided beautiful days in our neighborhood. Photographed here is the Village Fest Committee with our esteemed guests...โSpeedy Deliveryโ.

In 2nd grade Guidance, we transformed the classroom into a magic theater and "Magician Wilson" performed a magical friendship trick with the help of all the students. The red velvet magician's bag was filled with fantastic friendship ideas created by students such as showing kindness, helping others, and including everyone! The excitement grew while saying magic words and "POOF!" the paper turned into magical confetti that students were able to keep as a continual reminder that "Friendship is Magical!"
