Walworth Student Council Members Share Information on Kindness

Monday starts a meaningful school week for the students and staff at Walworth Jt. School District #1 as it is designated Kindness (Anti-Bullying) Week. The theme is Celebrate Spring by Stopping Bullying.

The week kicked off Monday morning with an assembly and entertainment in the auditorium. Following introductions by school personnel and the Walworth Police Department, there was a skit by the school's Hope Squad and speeches about kindness from the Student Council.

Kindness Dress Up Days include: Monday - As friendships feel warm and fuzzy, dressing in appropriate pajamas was featured; Tuesday - Staying active and being kind will be featured with exercise/sports clothes; Wednesday - As anyone can be a superhero, people are encouraged to dress in superhero clothes or as someone thought of as a superhero; Thursday - With a Unite Against Bullying theme, everyone is encouraged to dress as a rainbow, as in JK and K - blue, first - purple, second - green, third - pink, fourth - yellow, fifth - orange, sixth - teal/aqua, seventh - red, and eighth - neon; and Friday - Everyone is encouraged to wear green and gold for St. Patrick's Day.

The school is featuring a Garden of Kindness in a large hallway near the library. There are displays demonstrating a commitment to kindness, including kindness messages and projects. There are also kindness and anti-bullying door decorations and kindness kits. Classes that participate earn a prize.

There is an all-school read-aloud during Reading X time. Teachers in grades 3-8 are reading the book "Wonder," while JK-2nd teachers read kindness books from the Kindness Garden basket.

The school week concludes Friday with all-school events, showing the movie "Wonder" to grades 3-8 and "Trolls" to JK-2nd, Popcorn will be available to the classes.

The following school week, March 20-24, will be spring break.
