Tax Levy Information

Tax Levy Informational Post

December 13, 2019

Dear Walworth Families,

With the release of the new tax bills there may be some questions regarding the increase in property taxes for Walworth Joint School District #1.  The District’s revenue limit is set by the State of Wisconsin annually. The revenue limit is the maximum amount of revenue the District will receive from the combination of State Aid and Property Taxes.  Walworth’s revenue limit remained approximately the same as last year, but the amount of State Aid was significantly reduced. This means that Property Taxes must make up for the reduction in State Aid.

  • The 2019-2020 State Aid to Walworth is $497,000 less than last year, which is a 15.06% decrease.  You will see a line item on your tax bill that says “State Aid” and that amount should have gone down from last year.

  • Property values of homes and businesses located in the district increased by 5.28%. This is an indicator to the State that the district’s taxable population is more fiscally able to finance the needs of the school district.

  • In 2018-2019 Walworth Jt. School District #1 reduced expenses by 9.84%.  State Aid is calculated using data from the prior school year, so lower expenses in 2018-2019 means less state aid in 2019-2020.

  • Declining Student Enrollment also negatively impacted State Aid.

School funding formulas can be very difficult to understand. We hope that this information is helpful. If you would like more information please contact Phill Klamm, Interim District Administrator/Principal, at (262) 394-2010 or at
