Student Bites Into An Apple For The Great Apple Crunch

If you heard a loud crunching sound coming from Walworth Jt. School District #1 on Thursday, Oct. 13, it was from students and staff enjoying biting into apples!

Walworth participated in the Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch, an event to celebrate National Farm-to-School Month by crunching together into locally-sourced apples.

The Apple Barn in Elkhorn provided Empire apples, with each homeroom teacher filling bags of apples for their classes. All students and staff were encouraged to participate.

Walworth joined schools, early care centers, colleges, hospitals and other organizations across the Great Lakes Region states of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa and Ohio in the eighth-annual Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch.

This collective crunch encourages healthy eating and supports farm-to-school and local food initiatives throughout the Great Lakes Region. For more information about the Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch, visit cias.wisc.edu/our-events/applecrunch/.
