Poinsettia sale helps music department 

The annual poinsettia sale orders closed Nov. 18 and the proceeds from the sale will help decorate the stage for the fifth- and sixth-grade holiday concert. It will also raise money for class and instrument needs. 

The holiday concert will be Dec. 20 and plants can be picked up after the concert or in the main office on Dec. 21-22. The plants, in six and one-half diameter pots, were sold for $15 each.

Students help fight off hunger 

The Walworth Jt. School District #1 and the seventh- and eighth-grade student council has partnered with other area school districts and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to Hunt Off Hunger.

The students are asking the public to help by donating canned goods or other non-perishable food items for the holiday season.

Items will be collected in the Welcome Center until Dec. 8. The food will be shared with the local community shelters and food pantries. 

Penny Wars nearing finish

The Penny Wars that started Nov. 7 in school will be ending Nov. 22. The proceeds help raise funds for field trips.

Pennies and dollar bills are positive points for the child's homeroom, Silver coins could be put in other classroom buckets as negative points. Negative coins were brought in Nov. 11 and 18, and can be brought in Nov. 22.

Minecraft offered education edition

Minecraft Edu, a school version of Minecraft, was offered to fifth- through eighth-graders after school on Nov. 16.  Beginners to Minecraft learned how to navigate through the different types of worlds and were able to "craft" items to use in their games.

Intermediate and advanced Minecraft players were given a series of challenges to complete. The Career Connections included Career Clusters of science. technology, engineering and math (STEM).

Thanksgiving break upcoming

Everyone is reminded that there will be no school Nov. 23-25 as part of the Thanksgiving break. There will be some special events the following week.

At 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 28, the board of education will be meeting. At 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29, a boys basketball game featuring Sharon at Walworth is scheduled. Then, on Nov. 30, it is Wildcat Wednesday, where everyone is encouraged to wear Wildcat apparel or purple and gold.
