A Family Holiday Gift Card Project is ongoing now through Monday, Dec. 5, at Walworth Jt. School District #1. Spearheaded by school counselors Lee Knoble-Janney and Jen Ott-Wilson, the goal is to make Christmas special for all kids.

"The percentage of our students living in poverty has increased," said a press release from the counselors. "We have many families who are struggling financially."

This year's project will support families in need with gift cards to grocery stores, local restaurants and department stores (where families will be able to buy presents for children). Those willing to help families can submit gift card donations through Dec. 5. The counselors said it is hoped to be able to provide each family with a couple of different gift cards to address various needs during the holiday season.

Gift cards in increments of $10, $15, $20 and $25 are being sought in order to allow flexibility of giving cards to multiple places for one family. Some examples of places to purchase gift cards include, but are not limited to: Walmart, Target, Kohl's, Aldi's, Sentry, Subway, Burger King, Sammy's on the Square and Nayeli's Pizza.

Gift cards can be dropped off at Walworth School anytime between now and Dec. 5, or they can be sent in the mail, addressed to: Walworth Elementary School, Attn. Eileen Coleman, 121 S. Beloit St., Walworth, WI 53184.

The families in need will be picking up their gift cards the second week of December to allow plenty of time for shopping, said the counselors.
